Toshiba unveils 64GB NAND Memory…64GB iPod Touch?

Now that I got your attention… Toshiba has announced a 64GB embedded NAND flash memory module, the highest capacity in the NAND chip industry. The semiconductor giant advertised its’ new chip along with a new lineup of six embedded NAND flash memory modules. Each of the six modules have multiple storage areas and enhanced security.
The lineup capacity ranges from 2GB to 64GB with the 64GB going into production the first quarter of 2010, Toshiba said. Toshiba is the first to combine sixteen 4GB NAND units on a single die to achieve the 64GB chip. The company pitched its’ new lineup to netbooks, smartphones, mobile phones, and digital video cameras.
This news guarantees a 64GB iPhone 3GS and 128GB iPod touch upgrade in 2010. With Apple buying up almost 25 percent of the worlds NAND memory it is certain they will place an early, very large order very soon if they haven’t already done so. If a 128GB NAND flash module becomes a reality the next year, it could easily be the end of the iPod classic which is the only iPod that uses a mechanical memory drive (hard drive).

Toshiba’s 64GB chip will most likely be the first to be installed in the rumored Apple tablet. In fact, if Apple were to combine four or eight 64GB NAND embedded chips the Tablet could come with a whopping 256GB to 512GB’s of memory!

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

There are a lot of people who do not pay any attention to RAM when they buy their laptops. They may be ignorant or perhaps plain negligent on this. But when the laptop works slowly or perhaps conks off in the middle of important tasks, they wonder as to what happened suddenly.
