Apple Milestone Greeted With Little Fanfare

Apple unleashed a virtual endless ocean of apps when it opened up the iPhone to programmers large and small. The applications range from the most basic, such as free updaters that inform users of breaking news from their favorite website, to ingenious little gems that garner media attention. A release from Apple dated September 28th declared that over 2 billion apps have been downloaded by iPhone users to date, but mentioned little else. The first billion were announced on April 24th and included specifics regarding what the app was, when it was downloaded, and the name of the individual who downloaded it. The 13 year-old downloader even received free Apple swag as part of the commemoration. It seems that now Apple finds celebrating the accomplishments of its burgeoning iPhone too passé.
