The Apple iPad has stormed onto the scene, and most people would be hard-pressed to name just one other tablet device that preceded it. In fact, even today, the Apple iPad has dominated the market, and anyone else trying to gain a foothold in that space is looking up at Mount Everest.
Because of the huge demand for the iPad (3G or WIFI), Apple is able to charge a higher amount for their products.
As a downside, this makes repairing a broken Apple iPad all the more realistic, because often getting an iPad fixed is going to be cheaper than tossing it out and buying a new one.

One interesting thing about the iPad is that, if the screen breaks, sometimes the soft aluminum body can get dented, too.
